With an increasing focus on environmental concerns, sustainable design inspires research and unleashes the creative imagination of architects. The priority to minimize the environmental impact of buildings as well as the overall built environment is changing the way we think and plan, also the tools we use and the materials we employ.<\/p>\n

The rise of technology is transforming the way we think about smart homes. New structures incorporate advanced automation, Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, and data-driven systems to enhance energy efficiency, resident comfort, and overall building performance. We may not be far from an era where homes become intelligent, actively responsive, and even emotionally aware entities.<\/p>\n

But what happens with the existing building stock in our big cities? “Adaptive reuse” is the key term in their strategic evolution. Adaptation and reutilization have gained popularity as a sustainable and economically efficient approach instead of demolition. New functions and architectural integrity govern the conversion of old factories into office buildings or hotels and old residential buildings into hospitality spaces.<\/p>\n

In the dynamically evolving cities of the future, with their abundant resources, people yearn for a connection with nature. Biophilic design aims for this coveted reconnection by incorporating natural elements into the built environment. Natural light, living walls, green roofs, and natural materials enhance the physical and mental well-being of the inhabitants in visually appealing spaces.<\/p>\n

The new needs of the era are being transformed into principles. Principles with strong intellectual foundations. What is their design language? Simplicity, architects respond, each redefining it within the framework of anthropological, local, historical, and personal contexts. The ultimate goal is harmony, the promotion of tranquility, and a sense of balance.<\/p>\n

In this fast-paced world that often overtakes us, a compass point in development is cultural sensitivity.<\/p>\n

Identity elements soothe the soul and protect commercial value. There is a growing emphasis on designing buildings that reflect and respect local cultures and traditions. Architects create structures that blend with their environment, embrace local materials, construction techniques, and design patterns, and involve the local community in their construction. Cultural continuity within communities is an irreplaceable goal.<\/p>\n

On our small, vast planet, trends evolve in different ways and at varying paces in different regions. However, over time, international snapshots of architectural trends seem to converge, as the exchange of ideas and practices involves and engages every cultural hub and place. Where are we and where do we want to go in Greece?<\/p>\n

At the fourth edition of the “Architects Talk” conference, held within BUILDEXPO Greece exhibition and organized by ARCHISEARCH.gr and the Design Ambassador, representatives from the leading architectural firms in the country share their perspectives and experiences, exchange ideas, while building bridges for wider collaboration and coexistence. The event is presented by Danai Makri, Head of Content at Design Ambassador.<\/p>\n

Until 2050, the population could reach 9.8 billion, with two-thirds of people living in cities. What are truly sustainable cities, and what are they made of?<\/p>\n

We focus on urban housing. Who are the new clients and investors? What new typologies are emerging in urban residences, what factors shape them, and how do they interact with the new lifestyle habits of residents? Will single-family homes continue to exist in cities, and how is the suburban profile changing today, with a different identity from new construction?<\/p>\n

The investment interest in the Greek countryside remains unabated. When the natural landscape is heavily developed, what goals should architecture have, and how can it serve them? Among other things, issues of cultural continuity within communities and infrastructure are examined.<\/p>\n

Just as sustainability is defined multifactorially, through a plethora of tools and objectives, the same applies to its aesthetics. So, what is the aesthetics of sustainability? What factors set the technical and aesthetic priorities? What is the role of landscaping in sustainable building?<\/p>\n
